Blank Slate presents at the Alzheimer’s Association International Conference in Amsterdam

July was an especially exciting month to be a researcher at Blank Slate. Amy traveled to Amsterdam, the Netherlands, for the annual Alzheimer’s Association International Conference (AAIC). This event brings together researchers, medical professionals, nonprofits, and companies from the private sector to share and learn about the latest advancements in predicting, diagnosing, and treating Alzheimer’s disease.

This year, Blank Slate joined the conversation. Amy presented our own research findings alongside our research collaborators from Boston University and the Department of Veterans Affairs.

It was inspiring to see and meet the scientists and clinicians who dedicate their professional lives to understanding and combating this incurable condition. Right in our wheelhouse, researchers at the conference presented on the many ways in which artificial intelligence technologies are being leveraged to predict and diagnose Alzheimer’s disease. Researchers are using machine learning to:

• Determine the genes and lifestyle factors that increase susceptibility to Alzheimer’s
• Aid in early detection and diagnosis of the disease
• Predict the progression of the disease after its onset
• And more.

At Blank Slate, we also capitalize on machine learning technology to advance research on Alzheimer’s disease, but with a different goal in mind.

Instead of predicting and diagnosing, we use AI to help people with Alzheimer’s answer the question they face after their diagnosis: What’s next?

Our recent research has shown that Blank Slate is a highly effective and usable tool for helping people with Alzheimer’s form new memories and maintain old ones. Amy previewed this forthcoming research at the AAIC conference. Stay tuned for more exciting news on this in the coming months.
